Here we go again

Hey, General Mills is doing an iTunes promotion, which I didn't discover until I was in the supermarket today with a coupon for Reeses Puffs. Unlike the Pepsi promotions of 2004 and 2005, in this one, every box has a code for a free song.

I bought two boxes of Reeses Puffs, but didn't get a 5-song bonus (as it says on the box, "many will enter, few will win"). The songs I downloaded: the single edit version of Jefferson Starship's "Miracles" -- half the length of the album version, which I already had -- and a cover version of Lou Reed's "Satellite of Love," performed by an artist named Mike Chappelear, which I heard on the "Coverville" podcast some months ago.

And now to have some cereal for dinner. (Actually, the code is printed on the inside of the box, so it doesn't require opening the inner bag of cereal to get it.)

Another sad glimpse into my life

I was watching a show on the History Channel called "Modern Marvels: '80s Tech." During the "VCR" segment, they showed a quick shot of a listings page from TV Guide from the late '70s/early '80s. I didn't even have to pause the TiVo to say "San Francisco Metropolitan Edition."

I'm not sure whether I don't have a girlfriend because I can do things like that, or if I can do things like that because I don't have a girlfriend.

Anyone want some sign-in sheets?

The first closed-captioning I ever did, eight and a half years ago on the "Today" show, has been lost to the mists of history...but thanks to modern technology, we'll always have the first content editing I ever did for Yahoo!...

Unfortunately, because this is the truncated version of the description, you can't see all the work I did, but you can see that I added "sign in sheets," the basic rule being that the term that has been searched for needs to be somewhere in the title or description. (Couldn't put "sign in sheets" in the title because, as I discovered on the site, the sign-in sheets aren't among the 35 you get free.)

Well, that was exciting

I was so distracted thinking about my new job as I drove there this morning that, when I first remembered to look at my odometer: 60,001.

But the new job seems great so far. They gave free lunch to the new hires, which is more than I've had on any other previous "first day."

Aye, palindrome, aye

My car's odometer is currently at 59,995.

Unless some emergency driving becomes necessary in the next couple of days, it will hit 60,000 on the drive to my first day of work Wednesday morning.

Yes. Always!

Back in my college days, a group of us in the dorm watched "Animaniacs" every day. There was one cartoon in the "Animaniacs" rotation that I remember us all being stunned by because it was so jaw-droppingly bizarre. Here it is.

And here's what it's based on.

John Hodgman is a better version of me

I've already mentioned here the existence of "Jim Knows: The Book" by John Hodgman (actual title: The Areas of My Expertise).

What I haven't mentioned is his appearance on a DVD by They Might Be Giants, my favorite band of all time.

And his occasional appearances on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," a fine television program which I watch regularly.

Now he's appearing in a series of television commercials for Apple in which he plays "PC" to Justin Long's "Mac" -- that's Justin Long of "Ed," a fine television program which I watched regularly.

I am expecting that next, I will hear that he has given up the writing business and is now employed as both the P.A. announcer at Shea Stadium and as an Amtrak conductor.
